Stone Age Museum: The Stone Age Collection of Chamberlain N. F. B. Sehested

Renaissance Man, Chamberlain Niels Frederik Bernhard Sehested, who lived at Broholm 1839-82, had a lifelong interest in antiquities, but only in his old age he got time to do something about it. But then things turn too fast and there was "longed and searched".

The result of N.F.B. Sehested tendon, archaeological zeal can be seen in the 3-leaf museum building as his own drawings were constructed at the south moat in 1878 as Denmark's first museum, built for that purpose.
It contains over 60,000 pieces of flint from the Stone Age, neatly arranged by type and time period tilted shelves from floor to ceiling.

As Lord Chamberlain died in 1882, the archaeological activities at Broholm died with him. In 1938 Funen "Stiftsmuseum" bought all Broholm-museum Bronze and Iron Age findings, while the Stone Collection was left untouched until Birgitte Sehested Grice in 1999, on condition that the museum should remain at Broholm, transferred the building and collections for Svendborg Museum, which now has responsibility for this rich, local heritage conservation and to make it available to interested groups.

Broholm's Doll Museum

The children of the owners of Broholm Castle lived together in "The Childrens Hall". You have the opportunity to get a sense of what it was like back then. Experience Broholm's large doll and toy exhibition on the second floor of the Manor House.

Have a game of crouqet in the beautiful garden of Broholm

Croquet is a very popular garden game, which was mostly played around the turn of the century. It was mainly played by ladies and the elderly. Modern Croquet is not the same. The game does not require physical performance, but in return requires a good eye and a safe hand. There are so many fine variations and subtleties in modern Croquet that it requires a lot of attention on the part of its practitioner, and a driven croquet player can put his opponents to the test. If you want to play, please contact the staff.

The Park & Fairy-Tale Track by Broholm Castle

Through the ages Broholm garden and park facilities, not only created a beautiful setting on the old manor, but also allowed a lot of outdoor activities for Sehested genus. There were tennis and bowling alley, here it was easy to find a peaceful spot where you could sit with your fishing rod. Here you could also sit in peace at the lake in the small pavilion, where there was often served afternoon tea.

Storm damage, elm-disease and a certain maturity has been hard on the old garden, but a renovation of the garden architect C. Th. Sorensen's thoughts and ideas from the 1950s began, so that Broholm guests can again welcome the old beautiful solitary trees, the historic memorial pillars, carp ponds, orangery, - indeed everything that characterizes a beautiful manor house garden.

The fairy-tale track leads you through the Old English inspired park with canals and islets. The park from the mid-1800s was an open romantic garden with few trees, as it also served as a grazing area for the castle's many cattle. Now the park is overgrown and an exciting natural forest with both young and dead trees create a wilderness, with a great diversity of fauna and flora.

Remember proper footwear in form of boots on your way around the Fairy-Tale Track.

On your approx. 2 km route through the fairy-tale track, you will find "Hvileskoven" (rest among trees) and "Kærlighedsparken" (the park of love) developed by Jeanett Exner. The idea here has been exclusively using natural materials and to follow nature's own declaration of shape and direction.
